Ideas coming out of the interviews
When asking about ideas on how to improve interactions in Subotica during our interviews, people brought out key aspects where efforts should be focusing. We have tried to sort all these contributions into several topics that are the following:
> Working together.
Several people interviewed stressed out the fact that common projects between different national communities are crucial. Youth work is often presented as fundamental to increase mutual understanding - for example through students' parliament in high school, workshops with non formal methods or other ways of gathering and fostering collective projects. Moreover, working from the early childhood is consequential to bring people together.
> Improving teaching methods of languages.
Some mentioned situations where inhabitants of Subotica could not understand each other because of languages issues and had to use English as a common language.
> Providing young people with more opportunities to interact.
When it comes to estimate whether interactions are increasing in Subotica or not, opinions were divided up among the participants. Nevertheless, a significant part agreed on the fact that young people have less places to interact now than in the past, before the 90's.
> Supporting local initiatives bringing people together.
For example, creating a place where everyone will feel welcome and can gather, without being related to his or her origins.
> Changing points of view
Many people highlighted the importance of considering people firstly as a human being and not through the angle of the national community.
